Approved Funding within the Cross-Border Programme GO! 2025
We are pleased to announce that the project ZAFA25 – “Nebo onkraj meja” (“The Sky Beyond Borders” or “Il cielo oltre i confini”), led by the Institute for Radio Astronomy, has been successfully selected under the first public call of the GO! 2025 Small Project Fund (SPF 01/2023) and has received approved funding in the amount of EUR 190,000.
The project received a high score of 91.5 points and is one of 44 selected projects that will, in the coming months, contribute to the preparations for the European Capital of Culture Nova Gorica–Gorizia 2025. The aim of ZAFA25 is to establish cross-border cooperation through science and culture in the field of radio astronomy, connecting public institutions, research centers, schools, and the interested public in both Slovenia and Italy.
Through a variety of activities – from workshops and lectures to exhibitions, observations, and the development of new educational content – the project will bring space closer to people and promote science as a shared European language. At its core, the project fosters community connections, access to knowledge, and the strengthening of collaboration across borders.
The GO! 2025 Small Project Fund, managed by EGTC GO (European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation), was established under the Interreg VI-A Italy–Slovenia 2021–2027 programme and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the Italian national revolving fund. It serves as a key instrument for supporting projects that enhance cross-border development and contribute to the promotion of sustainable tourism, social inclusion, and cultural cooperation. The targeted programme area includes the Slovenian regions of Primorsko-notranjska, Goriška, Osrednjeslovenska, Obalno-kraška, and Gorenjska, as well as the Italian provinces of Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto.
ZAFA25 is committed to the values of cross-border collaboration, openness, and innovation and aims to contribute to the visibility of the border region within the European context – both during the preparation phase and throughout the actual implementation of European Capital of Culture 2025.
