Institute of Radio Astronomy

The mission of our institute is to establish a network of radio telescopes across Slovenia and connect them into a single, large-scale instrument, following the approach used in major international astronomical collaborations. Our research focuses on detecting the radio signal emitted by the OH molecule, an important tracer of water in the universe. Our vision is to provide Slovenia with the capability to conduct independent radio observations of the sky, leveraging the country’s technological expertise and potential. We also aim to unite diverse scientific, research, and technological fields while creating an environment where young people with innovative ideas can develop and realize them.
